River Basin
Management
The EU Water Framework Directive makes River Basin Management more important than ever before. The integrated management of water quality and quantity in river catchments, the usage of water, the flood mitigation and the protection of related ecosystems are the core of an integrated RBM.
Floodplain
Management as a part of the RBM refers to the recent and former (morphological)
parts of a floodplain and the river. Floodplains form the link in
a large river basin between the river, its tributaries and groundwater,
and its mouth into the sea.
